Qian Ning is a Research Assistant at the Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore. With a background in Law (LLB) and Arts and Cultural Entrepreneurship (MA), her interest lies in understanding civic urbanism as manifested in Malaysia’s Chinese New Villages, examining how placemaking practices evolve to assert belonging, resist displacement, and shape development outcomes. Focusing on vernacular, community-led practices, she aims to offer insight into grassroots spatial strategies and cultural resilience, contributing to the studies of how urban citizenship and spatial justice are negotiated within transitional and informal urban landscapes.
